Reaching Out to the Chronically Ill

Initially, when I heard about this event,were my medical condition and special needs. These needs were aswered with care and sensitivity.  The Gennesert Ministry, led by Father Paul Scsglione has reached out to both the young and old alike, those suffering from chronic and terminal conditions to present the word of God.  His massage was simple and clear,  To understand and respond to a growing need.WE ARE TRULY ONE IN THE SPIRIT.,
Held at the Abbey retreat center located at Gethsemane and was housed in the simple and inviting room you see here,  The only sound heard was the periodic chiming of church bells

Background
Prior to this event, the first such retreat was offered in Kentucky in 1992. After many years of performing pastoral care work to the sick, chronically ill, and those actively dying, the need for offering a retreat program for such individuals was apparent, and the Gennesaret Retreat was developed..

The program is very much volunteer intensive those folks from across the state an opportunity to participant.  These guys were affectionately referred to as Butch and Sundance..

.
There was much dialog, , the Word presented, , mass celebrated  music was heard .

Of course there was joy and laughter.The retreat was open to all faiths.;

After much discernment a decision has been made to expand the Gennesaret Retreat as one ministry to a new organization called Gennesaret Ministries, Inc. which will offer the retreat along with three other ministries. Thus a new separate legal organization, Gennesaret Ministries Inc. is being formed in 2015.poverty, longer lives, and the possibility of dying with no one to care for us became very tangible.

Throughout the history of these retreats, and also during Father Paul Scaglione’s ministerial career in pastoral care, other needs of both the retreatants and their families became apparent. Many of these same needs were made known by various researchers, studies, and other reliable methodologies.

Coupled with the services that needed to be addressed was a new and higher rate of poverty than we have seen in years. Also with advances in medicines the life expectancy of both males and females is higher than ever, which has meant that there is an older element of our society that oftentimes has few if any living relatives. Thus the need to address the issues of our imminent mortality, increased poverty, longer lives, and the possibility of dying with no one to care for us became very tangible.
